Do I Need A Passport For A Cruise And Key WaysTo Get One

Many have asked, do I need a passport for a cruise? Today we will answer this question and give you all the key information you need to get your passport for a cruise vacation.

The short answer to do I need a passport for a cruise is yes; you do need a passport if you are planning to take a cruise. The long answer is yes and no; you need a passport if you stop at international ports, and no, you don’t need one if you are cruising in the U.S.

Why Do I Need A Passport For A Cruise?

Do I need a passport for a cruise is a great question? You will need one to enter a foreign country on an international cruise. A passport gives officials proof of who you are as well as proof of citizenship. They cannot let you into their country without both of those things. Or, if you are taking an international flight to or from a cruise port, you will also need a passport.

However, if you are boarding in a U.S. port and disembarking in a U.S. port, known as “closed-Loop” cruises, you don’t need a passport. The cruise line requires a passport or an EDL (Enhanced Driver’s License) or a government-issued birth certificate issued by the government from the state you were born.

How Can I Tell If My Driver’s License Is An EDL?

Compliant ID licenses have a star on the card at the top. The best way to know for sure if you have an ID-compliant license is to check the department of revenue for your state.

Do I need a passport for a cruise if I have an EDL? If you have a cruise coming up and it is a “loop cruise,” you don’t need a passport because you can go with only an EDL license or a birth certificate.
